In the 1970s, an unexpected opportunity changed the direction of the company forever. The Gotwals brothers learned of an established horse-hauling business that was available for purchase. For my family, Brook Ledge is much more than a successful business in Oley Valley—it is a place that forever changed our lives. Nearly twenty years ago, my husband, Rodney, accepted a position with Brook Ledge. That opportunity led us to move into a company house on the farm, a place that quickly became home. 

What we thought would be a job became the foundation of a life filled with memories. Our four children—Camille, Bailee, Peyton, and Taylor—grew up on the farm, surrounded by open fields, horses, and a close-knit community that became an extension of our family. They learned the values of hard work, responsibility, and respect for animals while enjoying the simple pleasures of country life. 

Some of our family’s most cherished memories were made there. We watched our children ride bikes down farm lanes, explore the barns, make lifelong friendships, and grow from young children into adults. The farm provided not only a home, but a unique childhood experience that few people are fortunate enough to have. 

As I reflect on Brook Ledge’s history, I cannot separate the company’s story from my own family’s journey. While Brook Ledge has transported horses across North America and built a reputation for excellence, it has also quietly shaped the lives of countless employees and families like ours. We will always be grateful for the opportunities, friendships, and memories that began when Rod accepted that position all those years ago.
