These hands speak a unique history.
These hands once held innocently
onto all they knew in the world,
Nurturing queen,
When I wasn't able to care for me,
Now these hands care for their own family,
These hands been criminal, and uncaring,
For they were once attached to an angry spirit,
These hands
They done pulled triggers in defense of ideas
That were part of an enslaved man’s mind,
Thinking the fight was for freedom.
Man, that's the average American dreaming,
These hands have taken beautiful and made it ugly,
These hands have built and given to the hungry,
For these hands have been attached to someone once hungry,
These hands have held the firstborn of existence
So many times,
From siblings to children of mine.
These hands have felt the life leave from those I've loved,
These hands have written a meaningful word
Countless times inspired by a voice deep inside
That is timeless and wise.
